About us

Jamming from the start
At Zoomlly Jams, our mission is to democratize music creation, distribution, and consumption by building innovative platforms that connect artists directly with their audiences. We strive to empower musicians at every stage of their career while delivering exceptional listening experiences that celebrate the diversity of human expression through sound.
Our vision is to become the most artist-friendly and listener-centric music ecosystem in the industry. By 2030, we aim to revolutionize how music is discovered, shared, and monetized—creating a more equitable landscape where independent and established artists alike can thrive. Through our streaming platform and comprehensive suite of creator tools, we will build vibrant communities where musical innovation flourishes and authentic connections between artists and fans deepen.
Our Culture
At Zoomlly Jams, our culture is the perfect harmony of high-energy innovation and deep artistic respect. We foster an environment where creativity thrives alongside technical excellence, embracing the same passion that drives the musicians we serve. Our team operates with the excitement of a live concert and the precision of a studio recording—dynamic, collaborative, and always in pursuit of the perfect sound.
We celebrate bold ideas and calculated risks, encouraging team members to experiment fearlessly while maintaining unwavering respect for the artistic process. Our workspaces pulse with creative energy, from impromptu jam sessions to focused development sprints, all united by our shared mission to empower artists and transform the music industry.
Core values that define our culture include:
-
Artist-first mindset: We make decisions by asking "How does this serve creators?" recognizing that their success drives our ecosystem
-
Authentic expression: We encourage everyone to bring their whole selves to work, valuing diverse perspectives and creative approaches
-
Collaborative spirit: Like musicians in a band, we believe our best work emerges when we combine our unique talents
-
Continuous innovation: We remain at the cutting edge by constantly questioning assumptions and reimagining possibilities
-
Ethical leadership: We're committed to transparency, fairness, and building a more equitable music industry
This balanced approach—merging startup energy with artistic integrity—creates a workplace where passion meets purpose, and where every team member plays a vital role in revolutionizing how music is created, shared, and experienced.

Our History
The Founding Era (1975-1985)
Zoomlly Jams began as a small independent record label in Nashville in 1975, founded by music producer James Walker Sr. and audio engineer Robert Miller. The two music industry veterans had become disillusioned with how major labels treated artists and envisioned creating a company where musicians maintained creative control and received fair compensation. Initially focused on traditional country and folk artists, the company quickly gained recognition for its authentic sound and artist-friendly contracts—a philosophy that would become the cornerstone of our identity.
Operating out of a converted warehouse in East Nashville, the early team consisted of just seven employees who handled everything from recording sessions to vinyl pressing coordination and regional distribution. Despite limited resources, the label's commitment to sonic quality and artistic integrity attracted a loyal following among musicians and listeners alike.

Growth & Diversification (1986-1999)
The late 1980s and 1990s marked a period of significant expansion as Zoomlly embraced new musical genres and technologies. Under the leadership of James Walker Jr. (son of the founder), who joined the company after completing his MBA and spending several years at a major label, the company began its transformation from a traditional record label to a forward-thinking music company. This era was characterized by bold artistic choices and early adoption of emerging technologies that would later become industry standards.
The company's philosophy evolved to "music without boundaries," reflecting both its expanding genre portfolio and its increasingly national footprint. This period also saw Zoomlly developing deeper partnerships with artists, offering more comprehensive career development services rather than simply releasing records.

Digital Transformation (2000-2010)
As the music industry faced unprecedented disruption from digital technologies, Zoomlly Jams made bold moves to embrace the changing landscape rather than resist it. This period saw the company reinvent itself as a technology-forward music enterprise. While many traditional labels fought against digital distribution and file sharing, Zoomlly recognized the potential of these new technologies to democratize music creation and distribution.
Under the joint leadership of James Walker Jr. and newly appointed CTO Ava Miller, a former Silicon Valley software engineer with a passion for music, the company invested heavily in building proprietary digital platforms. This strategic pivot was not without challenges—the company's revenue temporarily declined as traditional sales channels eroded faster than digital revenues grew—but the long-term vision proved prescient.
